I’m a transplant surgeon. I do not do AI research work. I read the papaers, talk to the people building the tools and translate what’s actually useful for surgeons in practice.
The Dissection lands in your inbox every week. Each is a 4 to 6 minute brief built around three things: a quick look at what’s happened recently in AI in surgery, one paper read closely with a surgeon’s eye, and one company, tool, or regulatory move worth watching.
I’m Magnus Mansard, a liver transplant surgeon based in Chennai, India. I trained at JIPMER, SGPGI, AIG, and Apollo CLBS, with additional time at Harvard and Asan Medical Center in Seoul. I operate four days a week, take calls, run a clinic and teach surgical residents, like most of you reading this. I figured the only way I would actually read something was if I had to write something about it. So this is, in part, my own continuing education made public.
